Jonnell L. Ammons, also known as Nell, has been sentenced to 125 months in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy operating in Akron and surrounding areas. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after Ammons was convicted by a federal jury in September 2025.
Ammons, 36, of Akron, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as use of a communication facility to facilitate a felony drug offense. In addition to the prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Court documents indicate that from May 2023 to January 2024, Ammons participated in illegal activities with an Akron-based drug trafficking organization. The group distributed methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout Northeast Ohio. They used both residential and commercial properties in Akron to store drugs before selling them. Firearms were used by members of the group for security purposes during storage.
During the investigation, law enforcement seized quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, three loaded firearms, over $8,500 in cash, a Rolex watch, and a Chevrolet Corvette.
Six other individuals involved in the conspiracy have already received federal prison sentences:
- Terrance D.N. McCormick (TNasty), 41: 420 months
- Jonez S. Ammons (Nez), 34: 151 months
- Karim S. Davis, 33: 42 months
- Tyler J. Sands, 24: 140 months
- Ashley E. Steiner, 36: 102 months
- Jonte J. Averiett (Sticks), 24: 30 months
All defendants are residents of Akron.
The case was investigated by the DEA Cleveland Field Office. Prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Peter E. Daly and Joseph P. Dangelo for the Northern District of Ohio.
