Mexican national sentenced to prison for unlawful reentry in Oklahoma

Augustin Borja-Gaona, a 56-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for unlawful reentry into the United States. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Borja-Gaona, who used several aliases including Augustine Borja and Genaro Borja-Reynoso, was found in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, without legal authorization after previously being removed from the country multiple times—in 1999, 2002, 2007, and 2012. He pleaded guilty to the charge on August 18, 2025.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division along with the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.

According to officials, “This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”

The sentencing hearing took place in Muskogee before U.S. District Judge Robert J. Shelby from Utah, who presided by assignment. Borja-Gaona will remain in custody until he is transferred to a Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence. There is no possibility for parole during his incarceration.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Cornell represented the government at sentencing.
