Two individuals from Puerto Rico have been sentenced in separate federal cases involving child exploitation offenses.

On February 10, 2026, United States District Court Judge Gina R. Méndez-Miró sentenced David Montes-García, 49, of San Juan to 12 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release for possession of child pornography. Montes-García was indicted on February 20, 2025, and arrested on October 15, 2025.

Court documents indicate that between August 2023 and June 2024, Montes-García knowingly possessed sexually explicit images and videos of minors, including infants and prepubescent children under the age of twelve. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant on his mobile device and discovered a total of 367 images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Montes-García pleaded guilty on October 9, 2025, to one count of possession of child pornography. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daynelle Álvarez-Lora from the Crimes Against Children, Human Trafficking and Immigration Unit. The investigation was conducted by the Puerto Rico Crimes Against Children Task Force led by HSI with support from the Puerto Rico Police Department.

In an unrelated case, Derek Orengo-Delgado of Ponce was sentenced on February 5, 2026, by United States District Court Judge Aida M. Delgado-Colón to over thirteen years in prison for transporting a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity. According to court records, Orengo-Delgado transported a fifteen-year-old female minor to a motel in Juana Díaz in January 2025 for sexual activities and took sexually explicit images of her. He was indicted on May 7, arrested on May 8, and pleaded guilty on October 23, all in the year 2025.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenifer Y. Hernández Vega prosecuted this case as Chief of the Child Exploitation and Immigration Section. The investigation was handled by the Puerto Rico Crimes Against Children Task Force led by HSI with assistance from local police.
