New York resident sentenced to prison for drug trafficking in Franklin County

A New York man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine, for drug trafficking offenses involving heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine base.

Oscarlin Peguero Ortiz, 27, received a sentence of 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release from U.S. District Judge Stacey D. Neumann. Ortiz had previously pleaded guilty on July 23, 2025.

Court records show that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office began investigating suspected illegal narcotics trafficking at a residence in Avon. In July 2020, investigators executed a search warrant at the location and found Ortiz inside. During the search, law enforcement seized about 85 grams of a mixture containing heroin and fentanyl as well as 40 grams of crack cocaine. Authorities also confiscated digital scales, drug paraphernalia, and more than $8,000 in cash.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Maine State Police, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
