A federal jury has convicted Derick Lee Myron, 45, of Tuba City, Arizona, on multiple charges including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and robbery. The verdict was reached on February 5, 2026, after an eight-day trial presided over by U.S. District Judge Michael T. Liburdi in Phoenix.

The case stems from events that occurred on April 29, 2024, on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation. Prosecutors said Myron shot and killed an unarmed person and seriously injured two others. He then stole a truck, ran over the deceased victim with it, and left the scene. Authorities reported that Myron later abandoned the vehicle in a canyon near Cameron, Arizona. Over the following two days, he hid the firearm used in the shootings and avoided arrest by hiding in Moenkopi Wash.

Myron was found guilty of one count of second-degree murder, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, four counts of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of robbery.

Sentencing is set for May 19, 2026. A conviction for second-degree murder carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment as well as up to $250,000 in fines and not more than five years of supervised release. Additional convictions could result in more than ten years added to his sentence.

The investigation was led by the FBI Phoenix Division’s Flagstaff office together with the Navajo Nation Police Department. They received support from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Flagstaff Police Department, and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Genevieve A. Ozark (Phoenix) and Dimitra H. Sampson (Flagstaff), District of Arizona prosecuted the case.
