Jorge Torres-Perez, a 29-year-old Venezuelan national, has been charged in Colorado with assault on a federal officer, threatening to assault or kill a federal officer, and destruction of government property. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, Torres-Perez was encountered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement Removal Operations officers in December 2025 after being released from El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs.

Authorities allege that during his detention and transport by federal officers, Torres-Perez exhibited disruptive behavior and verbally threatened the agents. The complaint states he made repeated threats of serious bodily injury toward the transporting officers. Despite efforts to calm him, Torres-Perez reportedly struck the vehicle’s doors and windows, damaged interior panels and wiring, continued making threats, and spat on officers. The estimated damage to the government vehicle is $3,898.62.

"The charges contained in the complaint are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty," stated the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Chief United States Magistrate Judge Scott T. Varholak presided over a hearing related to this case. Homeland Security Investigations is leading the investigation into these events.

The prosecution is being handled by the Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
