Senate HELP Committee schedules hearing for Surgeon General nominee Casey Means

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Dr. Casey Means, who has been nominated to serve as Surgeon General. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time in the 430 Dirksen Senate Office Building.

The agenda for the session includes considering the nomination of Dr. Means to be Medical Director in the Regular Corps of the Public Health Service and Surgeon General of the Public Health Service.

Members of the press interested in attending are asked to RSVP through their respective press galleries.

The HELP Committee is responsible for legislative work on public health, education policy, workforce issues, and retirement programs with a focus on protecting health and supporting worker rights. More information about its responsibilities can be found on its official website. The committee also oversees federal laws and agencies related to health and labor sectors—including bodies such as the FDA and NIH—and influences regulations that affect health and education across the United States.

In the current Congress, Bill Cassidy serves as chair of this key committee (source).
