U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized methamphetamine valued at over $602,000 on February 8. The incident took place at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when a 45-year-old Mexican citizen driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra was referred for secondary inspection.

During the inspection, officers used a canine unit and nonintrusive technology to examine the vehicle. They found 58 packages containing about 65 pounds of methamphetamine inside. According to CBP, this amount could represent more than 100,000 lethal doses.

Port Director Alberto Flores commented on the seizure: “This methamphetamine seizure at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge demonstrates the keen instincts and outstanding targeting abilities of our officers. Their commitment and alertness remain essential in preventing dangerous drugs from reaching our communities.”

CBP took custody of both the narcotics and the vehicle. The driver was arrested, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are conducting an investigation into the case.

CBP is recognized as America’s largest law enforcement organization with over 67,000 employees. The agency works to secure U.S. borders by enforcing laws related to travel and trade while focusing on national security through collaboration and intelligence gathering.
