A bill aimed at increasing transparency in college costs is gaining support from major education organizations. U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, announced endorsements for an updated version of the Understanding the True Cost of College Act. The legislation was originally introduced by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Tina Smith (D-MN).
The American Council on Education, Association of Public Land Grant Universities, National Association of Financial Aid Administrators, American Association of Community Colleges, and the Association of Community College Trustees have all endorsed the bill.
The HELP Committee is scheduled to consider this legislation along with other bills related to education and health care access.
Senator Cassidy stated, “Right now, over 90% of colleges are understating the total cost to send your child there. You wouldn’t buy a car or a house without knowing its cost. Why should college, one of the biggest financial investments families make, be any different?”
