A Beaumont resident, Koy Wayne Dodd, 42, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
If found guilty, Dodd could face up to 15 years in federal prison.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative that utilizes the resources of the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Beaumont Police Department are conducting the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James is prosecuting the case.
“A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the press release.
