Jason Paul New, a 20-year-old resident of Semmes, Alabama, pleaded guilty on Mar. 11 to multiple felony charges in federal district court, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charges include four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country, one count of using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.
The case is significant due to the violent nature of the offenses and their occurrence within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation in Atoka County. Each assault charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The firearms charge mandates at least ten years in prison consecutive to any other sentence and up to a $250,000 fine. The stolen vehicle charge also carries up to ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
According to the indictment, New assaulted four victims with a dangerous weapon on May 30, 2025. He also knowingly used and discharged a firearm during these assaults. On the same day, he transported a stolen motor vehicle from Alabama into Oklahoma while knowing it was stolen.
The investigation involved several law enforcement agencies: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Atoka Police Department; Atoka County Sheriff’s Office; Stringtown Police Department; Oklahoma Highway Patrol; City of Kiowa Police Department; and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted New's plea and ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed. Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after reviewing federal guidelines and statutory factors. New remains in custody pending sentencing.
