Chief Michael W. Banks, Chief Patrol Agent for the U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector, posted a series of updates on his official X account highlighting recent activities and drug seizures conducted by Border Patrol agents in Arizona.

On March 17, 2026, Banks encouraged recruitment to the U.S. Border Patrol with a reference to St. Patrick's Day: "Are you wearing green?   We are! Not for luck, it means something - honor, service, and commitment.   Join the U.S. Border Patrol today! Apply: https://t.co/cPY4ii83bf https://t.co/v0cLYOrnCl"

Later that same day, he described a narcotics seizure in Sasabe, Arizona: "In the rugged terrain of Sasabe, AZ, a USBP Horse Patrol unit and K9 team on patrol encountered a discarded backpack stuffed with suspected narcotics. A USBP K-9 confirmed the presence of a trained odor - 12 bundles of meth were discovered weighing 19lbs. The drugs were seized."

On March 19, 2026, Banks reported another significant drug interception at an immigration checkpoint: "DANGEROUS DRUGS SEIZED: 119 POUNDS OF METH   At the I-19 USBP Immigration Checkpoint in Amado, AZ, a K9’s sharp sense of smell and our agents’ expertise led to the interception of a major meth shipment. After a K9 alert, agents noticed modifications to the SUV’s rear cargo"

The Tucson Sector is responsible for patrolling much of southern Arizona along the U.S.-Mexico border. The region has seen frequent attempts at drug smuggling and unauthorized crossings in recent years.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection regularly employs specialized teams such as horse patrol units and canine handlers to monitor remote areas and checkpoints for illicit activity.
