Wyatt Op Maloney, a 24-year-old from Tuba City, Arizona, was sentenced on March 26 by U.S. District Judge Douglas L. Rayes to 144 months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Maloney's sentencing follows an incident that occurred on July 14, 2023, when he assaulted another enrolled member of the Navajo Nation in Tuba City. The assault involved striking and kicking the victim multiple times in the head and face, resulting in fatal blunt force trauma injuries.
Both Maloney and the victim were members of the Navajo Nation. The crime took place within Navajo Nation territory.
The case was investigated by the FBI Phoenix office in Flagstaff along with the Navajo Nation Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina J. Reid-Moore prosecuted the case for the District of Arizona.
