Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Apr. 14 to discuss several key issues affecting the Middle East, according to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
The meeting focused on ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region. Both officials discussed the current ceasefire with Iran and highlighted the importance of securing long-term peace in the Middle East.
Rubio also emphasized continued U.S. and Egyptian cooperation aimed at achieving a humanitarian truce in Sudan. The two leaders addressed joint initiatives to disarm Hamas, aligning their conversation with President Biden’s 20-Point Plan for Gaza.
In addition, they explored ways to strengthen economic and commercial ties between the United States and Egypt.
The talks underscore a broader commitment by both countries to address regional security challenges while seeking opportunities for increased collaboration.
