Edward J. Sodlosky, a certified public accountant from Middlebury, was sentenced on April 14 to three months in prison and one year of supervised release for tax evasion, according to an announcement by David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden also ordered Sodlosky to pay a $50,000 fine.

The case highlights efforts by federal authorities to enforce tax laws and address financial crimes that impact government revenue collection.

Court documents show that between 2016 and 2022, Sodlosky operated his accounting business in Naugatuck and filed joint income tax returns with his spouse as well as partnership returns for an entity called FinGLTD. During this period, he cashed more than 2,000 client payment checks in order to hide income generated by his firm. These funds were deposited into various business, personal, and nominee accounts—15 different bank accounts in total—to avoid reporting them as taxable income.

As a result of this scheme, Sodlosky failed to report over $1.3 million in additional income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), leading to a federal tax loss of $422,720. He has since paid the IRS the owed amount but still faces significant interest and penalties.

Sodlosky pleaded guilty on November 19, 2025. He is currently released on a $50,000 bond and must report to prison on May 27.

The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Chen.
