Federal jury convicts Tampa man of robbery and firearm possession

A federal jury has found Justin Alan Seymour, 37, of Tampa, guilty of Hobbs Act Robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to an April 8 announcement from U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address violent crimes involving firearms in the community.

Evidence presented at trial showed that in October 2024, Seymour robbed a pizza store in Tampa and pointed a gun at the store clerk. Investigators obtained dashcam video from a delivery vehicle parked outside the store, which helped them identify unique features of the suspect’s vehicle. Two days after the robbery, officers stopped Seymour while he was driving that vehicle and found a firearm in his waistband. Cell phone data also placed Seymour near the scene at the time of the robbery.

Seymour has a previous felony conviction for attempted robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon. As such, he is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation into this case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted with cell phone analysis. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman prosecuted the case.
