Victoria Manning of Restoration News Media said that the National Education Association’s (NEA) planned protests and school walk-ins on May 1 are shifting public education toward political activism and ideological goals rather than core academic instruction.

According to an article published by Restoration News, Manning reviewed the NEA’s May Day toolkit and related announcements calling for coordinated actions at schools across the country. She said teachers’ unions frame these events as support for public education, while sometimes promoting specific ideological causes, including opposition to immigration enforcement. She also said leaked emails and event listings point to organizers intentionally using school sites for rallies and walk-ins.

"America's largest teachers' union, the National Education Association (NEA), is planning nationwide protests on May 1, including coordinated 'walk-ins' at schools to 'educate, agitate, & organize,' Manning wrote in the article for Restoration News. "It's no coincidence that classrooms are becoming more politicized. Teachers' unions prioritize Marxist agendas over core academic instruction. The NEA's website proudly proclaims that its President Becky Pringle is a 'fierce social justice warrior.' It's time for parents and conservative leaders to stand up en masse and demand Pink Floyd's famous phrase, 'Teacher, leave them kids alone!'"

According to its 2024 tax filing, as published by ProPublica, the NEA reported over $400 million in annual revenue and represents more than three million educators and staff members nationwide. Manning argued that some filings show grants to organizations focused on social justice and advocacy initiatives.

Manning served eight years as an elected member of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools board. She authored Behind the Wall of Government Schools and serves as vice president of Students First VA. Manning holds a master’s degree in law from Regent University, according to Ballotpedia.
