President Donald J. Trump issued a message on May 2 to mark Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, recognizing the contributions of Americans with heritage from across the Pacific. Trump said, "This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate the resilience, devotion, and patriotism of Americans whose heritage spans the Pacific and whose tremendous contributions have helped build the greatest Nation the world has ever known."
The president's statement highlighted the role of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in various sectors throughout America's history. He said that over 77,000 service members from these communities serve in the Armed Forces, alongside small business owners who contribute to economic growth, doctors improving public health, and innovators advancing technology.
Trump said his administration shares values with these communities such as family, hard work, education, and freedom. He stated that recent policies have aimed to lower living costs and provide tax relief through what he called "the One Big Beautiful Bill Act." The statement also mentioned efforts to reduce violent crime, improve education by supporting parents' involvement and merit-based advancement, as well as negotiating trade deals with Asian and Pacific partners.
"This month," Trump said in closing his message,"as we honor the enduring contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, we pledge to work toward a radiant American future that is guided by faith, driven by hope, motivated by hard work, and uplifted by an unwavering belief in the greatness of our Nation."
The annual observance aims to recognize both historical achievements as well as ongoing efforts among Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across various aspects of society.
