Erie resident sentenced to over seven years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking

A federal court sentenced Shawn Geer, a resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, to 92 months in prison on May 4 for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence also includes four years of supervised release following his incarceration.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug trafficking offenses in the Western District of Pennsylvania.

United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines handed down the sentence after information was presented that Geer, age 49, possessed with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine on or about July 2, 2023.

United States Attorney Troy Rivetti said the prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon. Rivetti also said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police were commended for their roles in investigating and successfully prosecuting the case against Geer.

Authorities say this sentencing demonstrates continued collaboration between federal and state agencies in combating illegal drug distribution.
