News Release: Cortez, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center & Museum has begun hosting interpretive programs, guided hikes, and will resume tours of its curation program starting July 6, 2022. Tours are open to the public and free with the $6 admission fee to the Visitor Center. Federal recreation pass holders and people under age 18 always enjoy free admission to the museum.

Park responds to bear incident in Elkmont Campground

News Release: Great Smoky Mountains National Park wildlife biologists and park rangers responded to Elkmont Campground on Sunday, June 12, following a bear incident that resulted in human injury. After an investigation and on-the-site monitoring, wildlife biologists successfully captured the responsible bear. Due to the risk to human safety, the bear was humanly euthanized on Monday, June 13.

Fatality on the Colorado River near Pipe Creek Beach

News Release: On June 11, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a passenger on a commercial river trip who had fallen into the Colorado River. Commercial guides were able to reach the woman by boat. The commercial guides pulled her from the river and began CPR.
