The Department of State has designated Harakat Ansar Allah al-Awfiya (HAAA) and its Secretary General, Haydar Muzhir Ma’lak al-Sa’idi, as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. HAAA is an Iraq-based militia group aligned with Iran and is part of the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI)," a coalition that includes several Iran-aligned terrorist organizations such as Kata’ib Hizballah, Harakat al-Nujaba, and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada. These groups have been responsible for multiple attacks on Global Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria.

The United States has expressed its support for the Philippines and condemned what it described as "escalatory and irresponsible actions" by the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the South China Sea. The condemnation follows an incident on June 17, where PRC vessels allegedly obstructed the lawful delivery of humanitarian supplies to Philippine service members stationed at the BRP Sierra Madre.

These designations are the result of close counterterrorism coordination between the United States and Türkiye. The U.S. Department of State hosted more than 150 business and community leaders from 49 countries in Washington, D.C., for the 2024 Professional Fellows Congress from June 11-13, 2024. The event was themed “The Exchange Effect: Creating Global Leadership in an Uncertain World” and served as a capstone for the Professional Fellows Program, which aims to advance good governance, economic empowerment, and civic engagement between Americans and citizens of other countries.
