New Mexico's Bandelier National Monument 'invites public' after lifting COVID restrictions

Bandelier National Monument will soon host summer programs, offering a variety of cultural-demonstration activities to display the craftsmanship of Pueblo locals and bring the community together.

“As COVID restrictions have relaxed, Bandelier is anxious to provide the programming visitors want so they can learn more about this park’s amazing resources,” Dennis Milligan, Bandelier acting superintendent said in a press release. ”We invite the public to include one or more of these activities in their planned visit to Bandelier.”

Local craftspeople will show off traditional skills, including pottery and flint-knapping at demonstrations scheduled every weekend through Labor Day. Craft items will also be available for sale, the National Park Service (NPS) site states.

Bandelier will also offer guided hikes and allow visitors to trek through the park's expansive backcountry with a ranger, the release said. The hikes will range from two to eight hours. Reservations are required to participate and can be made starting this month through October.

For a less active, but entertaining film-viewing experience, the park will also offer The Bandelier Night Sky Program, which features the Juniper Campground Amphitheater. The program is free, lasts through September, and is available several times a month for guided presentations of the night sky.

According to the NPS, the park’s entrance fee is $25 per vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, or $15 per individual, including bikers. Entrance fees do not include camping fees. The entrance will remain valid for seven days. The park opens every day from sunrise to sunset.
