The Bureau of Land Management confirmed plans to host a national public lands day event at the Ward Mountain Recreation Area in Ely, Nevada
“NPLD is a success nationwide because of the collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies, private organizations, and individual volunteers,” BLM Bristlecone Field Manager, Jared Bybee, said.
The recreation site invites volunteers to clean its trails along Highway 6, four miles south of Ely, on Sept. 25, the day was chosen to celebrate the National Public Lands holiday, originally declared in 1994. The event will begin with registration at 8 A.M. and last through noon, a related press release explained.
The establishment, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as hikes, bike rides, community festivals, and paddling excursions, has also cleared its fees for the day, allowing free entrances to celebrate the connection between people and their local greenspaces, Travel Canada notes.
The event is organized annually by the National Environmental Education Foundation alongside the Department of the Interior, Department of the Army, and Department of Agriculture, NPS reported. The National Park Service serves as one of the event’s largest providers, as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
“We’re excited to be part of it and look forward to working with our volunteers to maintain the trails at Ward Mountain,” Bybee said.
