PADUCAH, KY – The U.S. Department of Labor and the Joint Outreach Task Group will host a town hall meeting in Paducah, Kentucky, on June 20, 2019, to discuss the benefits available to current and former nuclear weapons workers from covered facilities, and their families, under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), including the Offices of the Ombudsman for both the Department of Labor and NIOSH, will provide information, answer questions, provide claim status updates, and help individuals file new claims. The event will include two presentations: a morning session for claimants and authorized representatives, and an afternoon session for medical providers. The presentations will cover claim adjudication, regulations, wage loss, impairment, medical benefits, durable medical equipment, home health care, and requests for vehicle or housing modifications.

The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act provides lump-sum compensation and medical benefits to current and former nuclear weapons workers whose illness is the result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. The program has paid more than $807 million in compensation and medical benefits to claimants living in Kentucky, and more than $16.3 billion nationwide.
