U.S. Department of Labor Partners with Kansas Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to Promote Safety During Facility Expansion Project

LENEXA, KS – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA): the Kansas Department of Labor’s Division of Industrial Safety and Health, and McCarthy Building Companies Inc. in Leawood, Kansas, have established a strategic partnership to promote employee safety and health during construction of the Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion Project in Lenexa, Kansas.

Participating in the OSHA Strategic Partnership Signing for Tomahawk Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion Project in Lenexa, Kansas were from left: BJ Peterson – Onsite Project Director McCarthy Building Companies, Mark Binkley – Onsite Safety Manager Mc-Industrial, Matthew Dierking - Project Safety Manager, Allen Vinyard – Kansas Department of Labor Consultation Project Manager, Ryan Hodge – OSHA Area Director Wichita, Kansas, Mike Wigness – Onsite General Superintendent, Robert Laufer – Onsite Safety Manager McCarthy, Walter Eldridge – Onsite Project Director McCarthy.

The partnership will focus on construction hazards, such as falls , struck-by , caught-in, electrical safety , and trenching and excavation hazards. The partners will also encourage contractors to develop and implement safety and health programs and provide safety and health training to employees, employers, and supervisors.

Through the Strategic Partnership Program , OSHA works with employers, employees, professional and trade associations, labor organizations, and other interested stakeholders to establish specific goals, strategies, and performance measures to improve worker safety and health.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees.
