Prime Food Processing LLC, based in Brooklyn, New York, has announced a voluntary recall of 2,243 cases of two dessert bun products due to undeclared milk on their packaging. The affected products are the Prime Food brand Lava Bun with Salted Egg Yolk and Lava Bun with Green Tea Flavor. Both varieties contain milk from unsalted butter listed in the ingredient statement, but this was not included in the “Contains” allergen declaration as required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recalled buns were distributed to Asian grocery stores across multiple states between April 2, 2025, and November 14, 2025. The states include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
The specific recalled items are:
- Prime Food brand Lava Bun with Salted Egg Yolk (UPC #97903705873), packaged in an orange pouch measuring approximately 10.25 inches wide by 11.25 inches high. The lot code range is 25092-25318 with expiration dates ranging from July 26 to March 27.
- Prime Food brand Lava Bun with Green Tea Flavor (UPC #97803705883), packaged in a bright lime green pouch of similar size. This product also has a lot code range of 25092-25318 and expiration dates from July 26 to March 27.
According to the company’s statement: "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products."
No illnesses or allergic reactions related to these products have been reported so far.
The company discovered the issue during an internal review and determined that it resulted from a temporary breakdown in its label review process. As stated: "The recall was initiated after it was discovered that packaging did not declare milk in the allergen statement. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s label review process."
Consumers who bought these products are advised to return them—along with any uneaten buns and original packaging—to the place of purchase for a full refund.
