WASHINGTON—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez issued the following statement commending the U.S. Senate for their confirmation of John J. Sullivan as Deputy Secretary of Commerce: “I’d like to thank the Senate for its confirmation of John Sullivan as Deputy Secretary of Commerce. As Deputy, John will play a critically important role in overseeing a wide array of key projects essential to our nation’s future, from 2010 Census preparations to NOAA satellites and other natural resource programs, to the 2009 D-TV transition effort.

“John can hit the ground running because his work as the Department’s General Counsel has given him valuable programmatic and management insights. John has distinguished himself throughout his career in public service and in the private sector and he will serve the Department and the American people well. I want to thank Chairman Inouye and Vice Chairman Stevens for their leadership and support for John’s nomination.”
