I want to extend a special welcome to Dennis’ bride, Dori Bye Hightower, his son, Dennis F. Hightower, Jr., and to Dori’s daughter, Brooke A. Harmon.
It is the good fortune of the Obama administration, the Department of Commerce, and me personally, that we are here today to swear in U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Dennis F. Hightower.
Dennis brings an extraordinary set of talents and experiences to this job.
He is a decorated Vietnam War veteran, a graduate of Howard University and Harvard Business School, and he has a decades-long private sector career in senior management that took him to 87 countries.
Dennis has served on the Boards of Directors of leading U.S. corporations and taught future business leaders at Harvard Business School. He has also lectured at business schools throughout the world.
I have already been so impressed by the ideas Dennis has to improve the way Commerce operates and how we can help the United States retain its leadership as a global leader in innovation, growth and job creation.
