Contract Supports $38 Million in U.S. Exports U.S. Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank today announced that L-3 Communications Corporation Warrior Systems Sector (Londonderry, New Hampshire) and its distributor Aviation Specialties Unlimited (Boise, Idaho) recently secured a contract from the Government of Colombia worth $42 million. The announcement comes on the heels of Acting Secretary Blank’s trade mission to Brazil, Colombia and Panama, which wrapped up on May 17. The trade mission included 20 U.S. firms with expertise in a wide variety of infrastructure industry sectors, and was intended to help American companies expand their business opportunities in Brazil, Colombia and Panama and promote U.S. exports.
This successful bid was supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advocacy Center, which coordinates federal resources and authority in order to level the playing field on behalf of U.S. businesses as they compete against foreign firms for specific international contracts or other U.S. export opportunities, and staff at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia. L-3 won the contract over foreign competitors Photonis (France), EO Systems (South Korea) and Meprolite (Israel).
Since its creation in 1993, the Advocacy Center has coordinated U.S. Government resources to help hundreds of American companies, including small, medium and large enterprises in various industry sectors, win government contracts across the globe. In fiscal year 2012, the Advocacy Center recorded the U.S. Government’s best year to date: client companies reported 53 wins with a total estimated value of $87.1 billion and U.S. export content of $73.9 billion. The U.S. export content supports an estimated 369,500 American jobs, according to companies.
