Statement by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker on the Innovation Act

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on June 13, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement today on the House Judiciary Committee’s actions on H.R. 9, the Innovation Act: "This week, the House Judiciary Committee took a significant step to build on recent congressional efforts to curtail abusive patent litigation and level the playing field for American innovators by reporting out the Innovation Act by a 24-8 vote.

Like the recent progress in the Senate, I applaud the committee’s bipartisan efforts to further strengthen our country’s patent system. The Administration strongly supports moving balanced and meaningful reform forward this year.

I look forward to working with both Houses of Congress to complete the needed work on these bills to enact legislation that protects our innovators and grows our economy.”
