U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker today released the following statement on the July jobs report, which showed that U.S. employment rose by 215,000 last month.
“The July employment report shows that the Administration’s efforts to get the economy back on track are working,” said Secretary Pritzker. “We have now added 5.7 million jobs over the past two years, the strongest two-year job growth since 2000. Our businesses have created 13 million jobs over the past 65 straight months, extending the longest streak on record.
“Our Administration is working every day to build on this momentum and create sustainable growth that benefits all of the American people. We are committed to completing the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an agreement that will strengthen our competitiveness by opening new markets for U.S. goods and services and creating new opportunities for American businesses and workers. We continue to invest in our people, to ensure that America’s workforce is prepared to talk on in-demand jobs. In addition, we have made sustained investments in innovation that will keep America on the leading edge of the 21st century economy.
“While we know that more work remains, particularly to raise wages, today’s employment report is another indicator that America’s economic growth is on steady footing.”
