FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2007 WWW.USDOJ.GOV CRM (202) 514-2007 TDD (202) 514-1888 WASHINGTON Brian Patrick Street, 39, of Griswald, Iowa, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker of the Southern District of Iowa announced today.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Robert Pratt for the Southern District of Iowa imposed a term of 360 months in prison for the production of child pornography and 120 months for possession of child pornography. The sentences are to be served concurrently. Judge Pratt also sentenced Street to a lifetime term of supervised release.
Street was convicted of child exploitation on Jan. 10, 2007, when a federal jury returned a guilty verdict after a two day trial and only one and one-half hours of deliberation.
There is no higher priority than successful prosecutions such as this which remove persons who so heinously exploit our children from our communities for as long as the law allows, said U.S. Attorney Whitaker.
After a fire at Streets residence, an underage female disclosed sexual abuse by Street. A search warrant executed on residence after the fire revealed nearly 60 sexually explicit photos of the underage female and seven of another teenage female. All images were recovered in a fire-proof safe in Street's bedroom. Testimony revealed Street had taken the photos. The underage female was found to have set the fire in which two children perished. The underage female victim pleaded guilty in Iowa District Court for Cass County to charges of voluntary manslaughter, attempted murder and arson.
This case was investigated by the Cass County Sheriff's Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of Iowa in Des Moines and the Criminal Divisions Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. 07-386
