FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2008 WWW.USDOJ.GOV USNCB (202) 514-2007 TDD (202) 514-1888 Washington, D.C. Collaboration among U.S. law enforcement facilitated the March 18th capture of Amaro Ligorio Rodigues at Miami International Airport.
Rodigues is wanted by French authorities for rape of a minor, rape, attempted rape, and flight to avoid prosecution. Multiple law enforcement agencies mobilized after Barbadian authorities alerted the U.S. Department of State (DOS) that the Interpol Red Notice subject had fled that country after being questioned about the French charges.
The Interpol General Secretariat (Lyon, France) verified the arrest warrant and notified agents of the U.S. National Central Bureaus Fugitive Division of RODRIGUES impending transit through the U.S. in an effort to return to Canada. Subsequent thereto, investigators of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) coordinated with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Diplomatic Security Service. Immediate cooperation among these agencies and the USNCB resulted in RODRIQUES arrest on a provisional warrant by the USMS at Miami International Airport. He is being held without bond pending extradition to France. He has been a fugitive from justice since 2005.
This case demonstrates the outstanding interagency cooperation between U.S. and foreign authorities via Interpol, which directly resulted in the capture of this sexual predator, said USNCB Director Martin Renkiewicz. 08-245
