Garland fails to provide Senate information that prompted school board memo encouraging federal intervention

Attorney General Merrick Garland has missed the deadline to provide the Senate Judiciary Committee with the information he used to issue a memo urging the Department of Justice to assist in local school board concerns nationwide, according to a Fox News report.

Eight Republican senators gave Garland the deadline of Nov 1 in a letter sent to him on Oct 7, the same day he testified before the committee.

“Eight GOP committee members sent a letter addressed to Garland calling for any information that inspired the memo other than the letter sent to the Biden administration by the National School Boards Association calling for federal action," the Fox news report states, "Garland had acknowledged that the letter impacted his office's decision-making, but he insisted that it was not the sole basis for the memo.”

The senators claim they picked the Nov 1 deadline because it was precisely five days after the hearing.

"Because you were able to distill your evidence and craft a memo that fixed the gaze of the FBI directly on concerned parents across this country in just four days, you should be able to share that evidence with us in the same period of time,"  the senator's letter stated.

Garland had urged in his memo that the FBI assist in local school board meetings in response to the rising threats of violence.

According to AG Garland's memo, there has been a "disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence" by parents at recent school board meetings, citing a letter from the National School Board Association as proof.
