House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost and Representative Jack Bergman said on Mar. 19 that they support the Department of Veterans Affairs' plan to provide $112 million in grants through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program in 2026. The announcement was made after VA Secretary Doug Collins revealed the new funding, which will go to organizations working on mental health issues for veterans.

The Fox Grant Program is designed to help community-based organizations offer mental health and suicide prevention services to veterans, servicemembers, and their families. Bost and Bergman said this funding is important because it helps reach more people who may be struggling with mental health challenges.

The program began as part of the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act in 2020, with House Republicans supporting its creation. Since its launch in 2022, the VA has awarded $210 million to over 100 organizations across the United States and its territories.

“We must do more to get more veterans out of the rut and onto a path of purpose – since 2022, the Fox Grants have provided that lifesaving bridge for thousands of veterans and servicemembers who may be dealing with mental health issues,” said Chairman Bost and General Bergman. “In rural districts like ours, a veteran driving just up the road for therapy or treatment can make or break their situation. That’s why we are so proud of the Trump administration’s multimillion dollar investment in this VA program that works. The Fox Grants cast a wider net for VA’s suicide prevention efforts and allow mental health organizations in communities where veterans live to have the backing of the federal government to reach even more veterans, servicemembers, and their families who may be struggling. We will continue to work in lockstep with the Trump administration to combat veteran suicide and think outside the box to get veterans the support they need.”
