For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met with Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi to discuss the shared security interests of Malaysia and the United States and to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on immigration security.
The MOU is designed to enhance the shared security of the United States and Malaysia through increased training, professional exchanges and increased law enforcement cooperation between the two governments.
The MOU strengthens the ongoing partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and its Malaysian counterparts and once implemented, will offer an opportunity for the two nations to work together on immigration security related issues, including the collection and use of passenger security related information. The agreement signed today builds on the comprehensive partnership announced by President Obama and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib in April 2014.
