WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will visit Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Georgia and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park to highlight the need to fully-fund and reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
These visits are part of two-day series of events to celebrate the success of the LWCF during its 50 year anniversary and underscore the importance of LWCF as one of the nation's most effective tools for preserving and protecting rivers, lakes and other water resources, to expand the interpretation of historic and cultural sites, and to conserve natural landscapes for public outdoor recreation use and enjoyment across the country.
The LWCF has played a vital role in boosting local economies in every state. That's because for every $1.00 invested through LWCF, there is a return of $4.00. The law is set to expire this year without action from Congress. President Obama is calling for full, permanent funding as part of his 2016 budget request.
