Secretary Jewell, National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis & Gill Foundation Founder to Release First National Study on LGBTQ History - Archive

WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Sally Jewell, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Jonathan B. Jarvis, Director of the National Park Service and Tim Gill, philanthropist and founder of the Gill Foundation will hold a press conference call to discuss efforts by the National Park Service to tell a more inclusive story about our country’s history and heritage and preview a recently completed study related to LGBTQ history.

The study is the first of its kind conducted by any national government and identifies places and events associated with the civil rights struggle of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer-identified Americans. The study is part of a broader initiative under the Obama Administration to ensure that the National Park Service reflects and tells a more complete story of the people and events responsible for building of this nation. The release coincides with National Coming Out Day and National LGBT History Month.
