SACRAMENTO, CA -- Deputy Secretary of the Interior Mike Connor will address the 8th Biennial Bay-Delta Science Conference on October 28 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Connor has been a leader at the Interior Department on Bay-Delta issues since 2009, when he became the Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation and continues to be actively engaged in his current role.
“The simple truth is that the only way that we are going to be able to ensure a continued reliable water supply for the State and also make progress in restoring the health of the Bay Delta is if policymaking and scientific research advance aggressively hand in hand with each other,” said Connor. “We need to develop the mechanisms necessary to ensure that new science is continually fed into all Bay Delta decision-making and policy-making.”
Interior's U.S. Geological Survey and the Delta Science Program (formerly under CALFED and now with the Delta Stewardship Council) host the conference every two years to provide a critical venue for more than 1,000 scientists, academics, resource managers, and stakeholders to collaborate about how to resolve resource and management challenges. It is a forum for presenting technical analyses and results relevant to the shared mission of providing the best possible unbiased, science-based information for water and environmental decision-making in the Bay-Delta system.
