Queens, N.Y. – On Monday, June 16, 2014, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will announce more than $100 million in competitive matching grants under the Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resilience Grant Program, helping to deliver on the President's Climate Action Plan to provide better protection for Atlantic coast communities from future major storms.
Unveiled last October, the investments will support local efforts to stabilize beaches, restore wetlands, improve the hydrology of coastal areas, improve infrastructure and assist local planning for storms. Projects under the Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resilience Competitive Grant Program will also provide an economic boost, creating hundreds of jobs in local communities. Many of the projects will place special emphasis on engaging and employing youth and veterans.
