Secretary Jewell to Deliver Commencement Address at the University of Washington - Archive

SEATTLE – On Saturday, June 11, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will deliver the commencement address at the University of Washington’s 2016 Commencement ceremony. Secretary Jewell graduated from the University of Washington (UW) and previously served on the UW Board of Regents.

Today, Thursday, June 9, Secretary Jewell will receive the Alumna Summa Laude Dignata award – the highest award the UW and the UW Alumni Association can bestow upon a graduate – to recognize the legacy of her achievements.

The University of Washington, a recognized leader in the field of sustainability, educates more than 44,000 students annually. At this year’s 141st Commencement ceremony, an audience of about 40,000 family members and friends is expected, and more than 5,000 of the UW’s 2015-16 academic year graduates in Seattle are projected to attend.
