U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo recently held an introductory call with the Taiwan Minister of Economic Affairs Mei-hua Wang, discussing their economic relationship and the future of their partnership.
During the call, Raimondo stressed the United States’ support for Taiwan and highlighted the crucial commercial relationship between the the two countries, a U.S. Department of Commerce press release said. Raimondo also conveyed the United States’ commitment to addressing supply chain issues for semiconductors and other critical supplies.
“Working together, we can build business connections and generate further investments which will ultimately create good-paying jobs, strengthen critical supply chains, and deepen our overall economic relationship,” Secretary Raimondo said in the release.
Secretary Raimondo and Minister Wang also announced that the American Institute in Taiwan and Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office will cooperate through a new Technology Trade and Investment Collaboration (TTIC), the release said.
The TTIC will provide a framework to develop strategies that improve commercial programs and bolster crucial supply chains, the release said. It will also focus on strengthening the U.S. and Taiwan investment environment, industry trends, and new opportunities while also promoting investment in the United States.
Secretary Raimondo and Minister Wang will announce their intention to convene the first meeting of the TTIC in the coming months.
