A Long Island court order is mandating that a Danny Gargan and Gargan Stables Corp. pay restitution to employees as a result of allegations of wage theft and falsified records to hide the missing wages.

A thorough investigation was carried out in advance of the ruling that found them to be non-compliant with labor laws.

Danny Gargan and Gargan Stables Corp. is a significant thoroughbred horse racing stable and its owner in Long Island has been ordered by a court to pay a total of $132,631 in back wages.

“The defendants took advantage of their employees by underpaying them and then tried to hide this illegal behavior by falsifying their payroll records,” Wage and Hour Division District Director David An said.

The court order was taken by the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of New York after an investigation that was carried out by the DOL’s Wage & Hour Division. The Wage & Hour Division's aim is to promote and achieve compliance in labor standards with the idea of protecting and increasing the welfare of the workers. The WHD also oversees enforcement of the federal minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, in addition to child labor regulations mandated by the Fair Labor Standards Act
