A third Houston gang member has recently been sentenced to prison for taking part in a string of ATM robberies at truck stops across Texas and Louisiana and the related assault of a citizen who attempted to intervene in one of the robberies.
Christopher Bernard Brown, 39, was sentenced on Jan. 5 in the Southern District of Texas on two counts of interference with commerce by threats or violence following a guilty plea submitted in September 2021, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) press release said. He is set to serve 90 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Brown will also be required to pay restitution.
“At the sentencing hearing, the court heard of approximately 33 related truck stop robberies that occurred between May 29 - Sep. 2019 that were part of the multi-district and interstate Hobbs Act conspiracy,” ICE said in the release.
During an ATM robbery at Love’s Travel Stop in Three Rivers, Texas, Brown approached employees or customers yelling “What are you gonna do?!! What are you gonna do?!!,” the release said. Employees did not intervene for fear of injury.
Wesley Jerome Davis, 28, and Kevin Wilson, 33, both pleaded guilty to similar charges on July 29, 2021, the release said. Wilson was sentenced to 90 months in prison while Davis received 60 months for their role in the robberies and assault.
“In Seguin, [Texas,] a good Samaritan attempted to stop the ATM robbery, but Davis struck him twice, at which time he fell to the floor and suffered bodily injury from a head wound,” the release said.
A fourth member of the gang, Thomas Alec Buckley, 26, has been convicted for his role in the robberies but has yet to be sentenced.
