A Houston man was recently sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for his role in several ATM robberies at truck stops located throughout Texas and Louisiana and being involved in the assault of a good samaritan who tried to intervene.
Christopher Bernard Brown, 39, pleaded guilty to two counts of interference with commerce by threats or violence on Sept. 30, 2021, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement press release said. He was sentenced on Jan. 5 in the Southern District of Texas.
“At the sentencing hearing, the court heard of approximately 33 related truck stop robberies that occurred between May 29-Sept. 2019 that were part of the multi-district and interstate Hobbs Act conspiracy,” the release said.
Brown was one of four Houston-area gang members to be arrested for the robberies, the release said. Wesley Jerome Davis, 28, and Kevin Wilson, 33, pleaded guilty in July 2021, receiving 60 and 90 months in federal prison respectively. Thomas Alec Buckley, 26, is currently out on bond awaiting sentencing.
Brown, during a robbery at Love’s in Three Rivers, Texas, reportedly came into contact with employees or customers, shouting “What are you gonna do?!! What are you gonna do?!!” the release said. The employees cooperated to avoid injury.
“In Seguin, [Texas,] a good Samaritan attempted to stop the ATM robbery, but Davis struck him twice, at which time he fell to the floor and suffered bodily injury from a head wound,” the release said.
In addition to prison time, Brown will also be subject to three years of supervised release and is required to pay restitution, the release said.
