National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries recently appointed a new director for the Operations, Management and Information Services Division at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) following the retirement of Lori Budbill who held the position during 42 years of service.

Tracy Sims, selected for the role on Jan. 7, most recently served as Business Manager for Department of Defense offices in Germany and Bahrain, an NOAA press release said.

“We are excited to have Tracy join the Alaska Fisheries Science Center management team,” Deputy Director Jeremy Rusin for AFSC said in the release. “Tracy has extensive leadership experience in budget, management, and administrative and logistical operations.”

Sims’ previous experience includes serving NOAA’s National Weather Service as executive officer for the Analyze, Forecast, and Support Office, the release said. She was also the first civilian to serve the Navy’s Military Sealift Command as Navy Husbanding Officer.

The new director held several federal positions following her retirement as a helicopter pilot for the Navy in 2007, the release said. During her service, “Sims flew the UH-3H Sea King helicopter, providing fleet combat support operations both domestically and abroad.”

“Tracy’s expertise, philosophy and management approach makes her a perfect fit to lead and continue the success of our Operations, Management, and Information Services team,” Rusin said in the release.
