Work continues at the Port of Long Beach as it 'supports nearly 2.6 million jobs'

Work continues at the Port of Long Beach in efforts to enhance the port that is critical to the country’s supply chain.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) took to Twitter to laud the part and its impact on the country.

“The work going on at the Port of Long Beach supports nearly 2.6 million jobs across the nation,” said the DOT.

The DOT added that with the aid of the supply chain task force, workers are helping to keep the supply chain intact.

DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg recently wrote on Twitter that the workers were critical in supplying goods to the country.

“It's a beautiful day here at the Ports of LA and Long Beach where workers are meeting unprecedented retail demand with help from @POTUS' Supply Chain Task Force,” Buttigieg wrote on Twitter.

The DOT is considering imposing a fee on storage containers that remain at dock long term and hold up needed space.

According to the DOT, the speed of movement through the dock has dramatically improved compared to the slow movement of past months.

The DOT reported that helps at the port includes a $52 million port infrastructure grant and moving the port to 24/7 operations.

Among the progress that the DOT has seen is a 40% reduction in long dwelling containers, record high movement of cargo through ports and record sales during the holiday season.
