Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Jan. 1 sent positive vibes to Haiti as they celebrated Independence Day after a whirlwind of a year.

Haiti's adversity challenged them as a global pandemic that has brought additional economic hardship to the country rages on, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of State.

"This year brought immense challenges to Haiti with the July 7 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, the Aug. 14 earthquake, and rising insecurity and kidnappings," Blinken said in the release. "We recognize the struggles of the Haitian people and will support our partners in Haiti to rebuild and strengthen the institutions necessary to overcome these challenges in order to achieve prosperity and stability within the country."

U.S. officials have vowed to continue to support partners and strengthen institutions deemed necessary to overcome these challenges to achieve stability within the country, according to the release.

"The United States remains a steadfast partner as Haiti seeks to build a broad consensus and negotiate a path to a more secure, prosperous and stable republic," Blinken said in the release. "On this day of independence, the American people stand with the people of Haiti as they strive for a brighter future."
