The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments regarding potential fee changes at Campbell Creek Science Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
The proposed changes to the fee schedule are expected to focus on enhancing interpretive programs or special tours, rentals for equipment, and group usage of sites, according to a recent BLM press release. The Center has not updated or increased its fees since 2008.
“The small changes to the existing fee schedule will allow the Center to continue to expand their services,” acting District Manager Kent Slaughter said in the release. “The continued expansion will also align this statewide resource with what other organizations are charging for similar types of amenities at their related facilities.”
The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 requires all fees that are collected from federal recreation sites to go toward services, maintenance, and improvements within the sites, the BLM stated. The fees to support these sites can be adjusted for several reasons, including inflation and to ensure a fair return for the use of public lands.
Comments can be submitted to the Center through the mail, at BLM Campbell Creek Science Center, 5600 Science Center Drive, Anchorage, AK 99507. Comments can also be submitted via email at sciencecenter@blm.gov, or directly by calling Center Director Nancy Patterson at 907-267-1255. Comments will be accepted through Feb. 12.
