The National Park Service (NPS) recently announced that First State National Historical Park has appointed a new superintendent.
Joshua Boles will become the superintendent of First State National Historical Park in Delaware and Pennsylvania effective Feb. 27, according to a Jan. 20 NPS press release.
"Joshua Boles has extensive partnership experience working with a variety of stakeholders," NPS Regional Director Gay Vietzke said in the release. "As a newer unit of the NPS, First State continues to build relationships with partners and communities. Joshua’s experience will deepen the park’s ability to work with many people connected to the park."
Boles has more than 15 years of experience with the NPS and currently serves as chief of interpretation and education at Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee, Florida. Before that, he served in the same role at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, Massachusetts, a position he was appointed to in 2015, the New Bedford Guide reported.
"Josh’s ability to establish and maintain effective teamwork, and inspire, motivate, guide, and work effectively with partners in the community makes him an excellent choice for this important position," Meghan Kish, superintendent of New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park said.
Boles holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from San Diego State University, the release stated. He has served the NPS in a variety of locations including Washington state, North Carolina, Arizona, California, and Utah.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected as the superintendent of First State National Historical Park," Boles said in the release. "I am excited to work with the park’s staff, partners, and the local communities to help tell the stories of this wonderful park."
